Greetings!

Welcome to Afro FantaSci!
I'm really excited about starting this blog for a number of reasons. I'm a big fan of Urban Fantasy, Paranormal and Science Fiction books.  I love reading about Aliens,Vampires, Super Heroes, Werewolves and everything in between. But unfortunately, in reading some of my favorite books there is a common occurrence. There is no one like me! I read a book and from hero to villain, every character is of the Caucasian persuasion. The world is not all white dear authors and publishers. There are many persons of color that just aren't represented in the worlds created by many popular writers. And while I still read and enjoy these novels, I long to see more diverse characters. I want to see a strong black man as the hero. I want to read about a sexy black vampire or an elf or captain of a starship.
These books are out there. They exist but they don't get the attention they deserve. Perhaps publishers feel there isn't money to be made by publishing and/or market these types of books. Or maybe they feel that the only thing a person of color will read is street lit. I don't think so!
So it's time to prove them wrong. I'm not alone in my desire for more diverse reading. This blog is about finding these authors and doing my part in getting the word out that they do exist. But don't be confused, I'm not giving anyone a free pass...poor writing is still poor writing and I'll give you an honest review.
I'm excited to see what I can find and to share with you those great authors that I've already discovered.
