What It's About
Tanya is an airline stewardess whose husband has done the the very thing that she won't abide - he's strayed into the bed of another woman. Legally separated, Tanya is heartbroken, hurt and confused why her husband would look outside of their marriage instead. In her attempts to find answers, she discovers a website for people with alternative/kinkier desires. It is on this site that she meets Kenji, a handsome man who opens the door to a new world of sexual fulfillment and friendship.
The Good
Once again Harper Miller has written mature people who make decisions that are NOT based on naivety (no blushing virgins overwhelmed by the scent of an attractive man), coercion, or the nauseating repetition of "Mine!" from a hero with the bank account of a billionaire. Tanya is a woman just trying to understand why her marriage went south, and Kenji is just a man looking for a connection. It's that plain and simple. The anonymity of the Internet allowed them to form a connection that made future interactions and budding emotions seem more valid. The author does this in a story that's only 40 or so pages long.
The Bad
This is a standalone title that's cliffhanger free. That said, it definitely has that "To Be Continued..." vibe that had me falling out like a two year old having a tantrum (yes, I was that into what was taking place.)!
The Ugly
Fortunately, this book was clear of ebook ugliness! There wasn't anything that was a major turn-off for me.
My Final Thoughts
This is the third Harper Miller book that I've had the pleasure to read and it's official, I'm a fan. Here is an author who clearly knows how to tell a story without all of the gimmicks that are becoming far too common in IR books today. Additionally, there is certainly a lot of story for the length. That means a lot considering I generally loathe such short stories as they simply don't deliver enough story to make it worth my time. Although I enjoyed Renewed for the most part, I have to say that I didn't care for the way that the book closed. Fortunately you can read up on Tanya and Kenji by visiting the website that is mentioned at the end of the ebook. Unfortunately, it bothered me enough to deduct a half of a star from what would have easily been a five star review.
*Sensitivity Warning: This book contains infidelity*
* I received an ARC of Renewed from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review*
Rating: 4.5 stars
