The Pleasure Hound is the first of three books in the Pleasure Hound Series. It is a relatively quick read based in a dystopian future in which female births are rare and, as a result, women are the ruling class. Men are considered second class citizens and their main purpose in life is to serve and pleasure women. Only first and second sons are allowed to marry and most marriages include two husbands. Male/male relationships in this world are not unusual or controversial in any way. They are in fact the normal way of things and are to be expected.
Chanyn is a woman who has lived separate from the rest of society for the majority of her life. Her mother, a member of the female elite, moved herself and her daughter to the remains of what was once Detroit. Chanyn (pronounced Shannon) grew up reading books about the world when men and women were born at a more even rate, where women did not rule over men and, more importantly she enjoyed reading about romance and falling in love. When we meet her in the story she is alone since her mother's death. Two men enter her home but hiding isn't an option as they soon need her help. Dain and Khial are lovers, but are not married. The lovers take her back to a civilization and a life that is foreign to her. The reader ultimately learns why the two men have "rescued" her from her life in the ruins, and also about the life that she was taken from as a child and her place in society. We also get to meet Jian, the Pleasure Hound, whose purpose is to determine what arouses a woman and brings her to orgasm, and to share that knowledge with her husbands.

Ensnared is an interracial (is it interracial if the hero is an alien? Technically he wouldn't be defined by something like human race, but I digress...) sci-fi/paranormal romance. The heroine of the story is a woman named Charlie Marine who is from Earth and who also has some psychic abilities. The hero is an alien, a shifter dragon, named Rhyker. At the beginning of the story we learn that the people of Rhyker's planet have more or less been wiped out during a war with Earth. The surviving males of his race remain with another alien race with whom they've allied. A few of the shifters go to earth. Years in the future we meet Charlie who is headed on a vacation to Mars despite the protest of her sister who is worried because of the disappearance of human women. Even their other sister has disappeared. Undeterred Charlie moves forward with her vacation plans and soon finds herself kidnapped and taken to the alien planet where she is given to Rhyker. Rhyker wants her but won't force her, she is determined to resist. The two soon discover that things aren't exactly what they seem and danger and frightening betrayals reveal themselves. Beyond the Velvet Rope by Tiffany Ashley

A lot of people, myself included, have been anxiously awaiting this book. It is a sophomore novel for the author that has been a long time coming following her fan favorite first book Love Script. Although I wasn't blown away by Love Script, I was impressed by the author's ability to tell a good and interesting story. She was an author that I was keeping a close eye on. When I first saw the cover for Beyond the Velvet Rope I admit I was pretty excited. I love this sort of cover, understated but telling. No need for the same 'ol cover models we've seen a million times over. Frankly, I've had enough of trashy IR romance covers (although a few author's do get it right, but I digress...). The cover's simple section of velvet rope and shiny silver left me eager to know what was actually beyond that velvet rope waiting in the digital pages for me to discover. I was even fortunate enough to get an ARC from Netgalley, so anxiously I dove in ready to be entertained and thoroughly engrossed. Darn it, I was set to LOVE this book... but sadly that wasn't the case. Beyond the Velvet Rope left me feeling disappointed.
