Roslyn Hardy Holcomb, you've done it. You have successfully pulled me out of my book funk with Pussycat in Peril. You did your thing, and I was both captivated and thrilled from page one. To say that I simply recommend this book is an understatement. I give it 5 stars!

Damn! This was a good book! High five Ms. Theodora you did your thing! I'm going to keep this review pretty brief because to give away any hint of a spoilers will shatter the impact of the story. Yes, the author asked reviewers not to reveal the who is who of the book, but I don't think I would have done so anyway. I'm glad that it hit me the way that it did, and I think anyone who reads it will appreciate the deliciousness of reading it unspoiled the first time.

Her Viking Wolves is a part of Ms. Taylor's 50 Loving States series. More specifically, it is directly connected to the paranormal, time-traveling branch of the series called The Alaska Princesses Trilogy. For those of you having a serious "Say what now?" moment, stick with me. Yes, I did say time-traveling paranormal and Alaskan princesses in the same sentence. I should also add Vikings to the mix, but as far-fetched as that sounds it is a very well-written series that I do recommend.

A Most Precious Pearl is a historical romance that takes place in the time period following WWI. It is the second book in the Migrations of the Heart series. A majority of the story takes place in a town named Winslow, which people who have read A Virtuous Ruby are familiar with. In fact, if you've read the series thus far you'll be familiar with not only the town, but also the Bledsoe Family and Paul Winslow, the founder of the town.  I highly recommend reading A Virtuous Ruby before starting A Most Precious Pearl. While it is possible to start out of order, there are many important events that take place in the first book. These events will deepen your understanding of what takes place in this story (Besides it's a darn good book!).

Tattooed Hearts is the third book in the Martha's Way Series by Mika Jolie. It can easily be read as a stand-alone title, however, reading the first two books enriches the story in my opinion. I think the previous two titles provide a better understanding of the close relationships between key secondary characters, and the simmering emotion between the two primary players in the story.

A Lover's Vow (Grangers #3) by Brenda Jackson

A Lover's Vow is the third and the final book in the The Grangers series. If you're unfamiliar with The Grangers you'll want to start at the beginning with A Brother's Promise as there is a mystery regarding who killed their mother. This mystery drives the story line and ties the three books together. I've enjoyed this series immensely and I'm so happy to say that A Lover's Vow did not disappoint! In fact, I'm inclined to say that this was the best of the three. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this. Sometimes you can anticipate a character throughout a series only to find that character fizzles once he or she gets a book of their own. No fizzle here!

I can be a bit long-winded so let me just jump into my review:

Ironic (The Kinky Connect Chronicals Book 1) by Harper Miller

Ironic is a short story and one of the rare few that didn't leave me disappointed at the end. In Ironic author Harper Miller introduces the reader to Michelle "Mimi" Montgomery. Mimi is the junior partner at a law firm. She's attractive, confident, and enjoys the kinkier side of sex. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to seek what she needs. She's just won a major case and now is ready for a little male enjoyment so she signs on to a website for people who enjoy more flavorful sexual encounters. Here she meets a dominant and oh-so-sexy man named Aden. Ironic is about the two meeting, from the initial online encounter to the physical one.

Have you ever read a book and you can't for the life of you figure out why it isn't more popular than it is? This is one of those books. Maybe it is the uninspiring cover?  Whatever it is, well it's a shame. This is such a great book, and I want to recommend it right from the beginning of this review rather than wait until the end. This is the only WWII I/R romance that I've read and boy does it have it all. I was captivated, caught up in the suspense, and action of it. I held my breath in some parts, gasped in others, cheered and ranted.

The story begins in the 1980s. A young African-American reporter is in France covering the 40th anniversary of D-Day. There she meets an older French woman at a cafe who happens to also be black. As they watch aging soldiers celebrate and share memories of the war, a song is played that has the eldest of the two women misty-eyed with memories. Her name is Veronique and she offers to tell the young reporter her story. The book

Just for Christmas Night by Lisa Marie Perry

Tonight I'm reviewing Just for Christmas Night by author Lisa Marie Perry. A couple of months back I reviewed Midnight Play, book #2 in the The Blue Dynasty Series by Lisa Marie Perry. Ms. Perry was a new-to-me author at the time and I really enjoyed Midnight Play quite a bit. My goal was to read book #1 in the series, but unfortunately my reading schedule never quite made it around to it. I've since had the opportunity to catch  Just for Christmas Night, the latest in the series, and it reminded me just how much I enjoyed reading this author's work. In fact, I enjoyed it even more than book #2!

Happiness in Jersey by Jacinta Howard

Happiness in Jersey is the opposite of wack. In fact, it's anti-wack! Okay, I'm gonna stop with the "wack" references for now (there are a few very cute scenes where this word comes up - I couldn't help myself!), and I'm going to get to my review. I want to say upfront that I hate YA books. Okay hate might be a tad strong, but they aren't my favorite. That said, I loved Happiness in Jersey! Loved it!

Two things drew me to this book - #1 an amazing cover and #2 the hope for a well written historical romance featuring people of color. What kept me reading was the fact that it had an actual STORY and characters that weren't just there for the sake of sex or an unbelievable and instant "love." Have I said how much I love Brenda Jackson? Okay, well here goes - When it comes to authors who write fabulous and non-stereotyped African-American characters, I love Brenda Jackson. Why I adore this author can be found in the pages of the book A Brother's Honor, which is the first book in the The Grangers series. If you've read my review of A Man's Promise then you already know that I read this series out of sequence and started with book #2 first. I was so taken with that book that I immediately 1-clicked book number one which just happens to be A Brother's Honor. As you can guess I wasn't disappointed and if anything I think I may have liked this book a tiny bit better than A Man's Promise and that's saying something.

The Mogul's Reluctant Bride (Billionaire Brides of Granite Falls), by Ana E. Ross

Ana E. Ross has done it again! The Mogul's Reluctant Bride is the second book in her Billionaire Brides Of Granite Falls series and it doesn't disappoint. Kaya Brehna's life has just undergone a major upheaval. According to her estranged sister's will, Kaya is now guardian to three young children following an accident that has taken the lives of  both her sister and brother-in-law. The problem is, Kaya has never been a part of her sister's life and until this current tragedy she hadn't even met her new charges. Kaya embraces her responsibility and is planning on fulfilling her sister's last wish. But there's a problem. Her sister, despite the appearance of living in the lap of luxury, died without a penny to her name. If that's not enough, there's also the problem of billionaire Bryce Fontaine, the children's godfather. The wildly attractive mogul is so attached to the children that he's not only hurt that he wasn't named legal guardian in the will, but he's willing to use his considerable financial resources to fight and overturn it.

Bryce is all kinds of deliciousness! He has a ruthless streak that's a mile wide, and he's a bit of an ass to Kaya at the beginning. He was good friends with Kaya's brother-in-law, who also died in the crash and was a major part of their lives. He can't believe that his good friends wouldn't leave the children in his custody and doesn't take it well. That said, he's a man that loves with his whole heart and he loves his godchildren. He's been a stable part of their lives, he knows them, their routine and he has their trust. Without a doubt you know he's the best thing for them in lieu of having lost their parents. The question is why was he so incredibly close to their parents and them? The reason is heart breaking and will make you forgive his arrogant ass moments.

From the beginning you know that Kaya's life hasn't been picture perfect. Her father abandoned her when she was a little girl, leaving her in the hands of a bitter mother. This is a big reason why she never had a relationship with her sister. You feel for Kaya, the children are family and she wants to be there for them. But she's a fish out of water, especially when compared to Bryce who is more than competent when it comes to children and their needs. Despite battling Bryce, the anger and sorrow of her young nephew, and a fiancee back at home, Kaya's determination is admirable.


The Positives: The characters were amazingly real to me. Their individual backgrounds gave them a believability that isn't always present in romance books. It made me feel as if I knew them, and I really did want the child custody issue to work out in a way that would work for the both of them. Another major plus was that this wasn't insta-love. There was certainly chemistry from the first look, but the attraction was quickly thrust back in the face of a potential custody battle. When these two succumb to the underlying passion between them, watch out! Like I said - Bryce was all kinds of deliciousness. His past story was sad, but powerful and really fleshed him out for me.

The Negatives: This author really has a thing for the overly sized penis! Okay, so some might say what's the problem, but it seemed like an unnecessary gimmick in a book that was written so well. As a reader you know that Bryce is beyond sexy and that he'll be a god in the bedroom, so the super-size me appendage wasn't necessary in my honest opinion (to be honest, it even made me cringe at one point). 

The Final Word: I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. There's a lot of pain and heartbreak, but it is also about two people moving forward, finding love, and creating a new family in the wake of loss. I really am impressed by Ana Ross and I'm look forward to reading the third book in the series starring Massimo Andretti (love that name!). I wholeheartedly recommend reading The Mogul's Reluctant Bride.

The Doctor's Secret Bride (Billionaire Brides Club of Granite Falls) by Ana E. Ross

The Doctor's Secret Bride is Book One in the Billionaire Brides Club of Granite Falls series by author Ana E. Ross. When I downloaded this book it was a freebie and greedy little book lover that I am, I snagged it without knowing anything about the author or her writing style. The great thing about freebies? You never really know when you'll find a jewel. I am happy to say that in The Doctor's Secret Bride, I truly found a shiny jewel of a new writer and a new series to follow.

What it's About

Michelle Carter is a down on her luck woman who has been working temp jobs and looking for work for several years. She's the victim of job layoffs and an alcoholic father who stole from her. Michelle runs across Mrs. Hayes, an older woman who helped take care of her and her brother when they were growing up. Turns out Mrs. Hayes works for a handsome widower named Dr. Erik LaCrosse. Erik's wife was killed by a hit and run driver leaving behind not only her husband, but also a little girl named Precious. Erik reluctantly hires Michelle, who his daughter takes a liking to. Problem is, Erik is attracted to his new nanny, but is still in love with his wife and troubled by her untimely death at the hands of the drunken driver. As the two fall in love, Michelle keeps secrets away from Erik out of fear of first losing her job, and then losing the man and little girl that she has grown to love.

The Positives: The characters in this story are very well written and they pulled me right into the story. I cared what happened to them and could feel the raw emotions in some scenes, particularly Erik's. Children can be hard for some authors, either coming off older than they should, younger, or too bratty. Precious was everything that she needed to be for the story as it was told. Her behavior and feelings were believable considering the circumstances.

The Negatives: The negative aspects of the book are minimal in my opinion, but there are a few. Some people may take offense at one of the sex scenes and Erik's "thrust" abilities. This particular scene made me roll my eyes, but it is fantasy after all and I wasn't offended by it in the least. Frankly I've read far worse.  Michelle did make some unwise decisions that had me ranting at my e-reader, but it showed that she was human and not perfect.

The Final Word:

Admittedly, I held onto this book for a while before I read it. I wasn't expecting too much from it seeing as I'm not a big fan of the "billionaire" hero trope. Once I started reading, however, I couldn't stop. It was that good. The story is well-paced and it will more than keep your interest. I'm hooked and I believe you will be too.  I highly recommend this book.
